Thinkpad w701ds second integrated display does not work with Nouveau

The Thinkpad w701ds has two integrated displays with the primary 17" display supporting 1920x1200 and the secondary 10.6" display supporting 768x1280. Both are driven by an NVidia Quadro FX 2800M. The primary display initializes fine, the xserver reports it as on LVDS-1, with DVI-D-1, DVI-D-2, DP-1, DP-2, and VGA-1 all disconnected. Booting into Windows, no second display is reported by Device Manager, but it works and is recognized by the NVidia Control Panel.

I just got one of these things, and the secondary display works on Linux 6.12.4 with the proprietary Nvidia driver version 340.

I am not able to get the proprietary kernel module to build (340.108) using gcc version 14.2.1 20241116 (Gentoo 14.2.1_p20241116 p3). What distribution and compiler did you get this working on?

Using: https://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2020/inttf-nvidia-patcher/ I got it to compile and install. X starts up after I added the IgnoreABI option to xorg.conf, however after an off center NVidia logo appears and both display's backlight turn on, the X server exits.

I used Arch Linux with either the nvidia-340xx-dkms or nvidia-340xx AUR package, I can't remember which.

I also had to add the IgnoreABI option to xorg.conf, but there could have been a few more tweaks necessary to get it working that I'm forgetting. It wasn't all that much, though.

I'm currently travelling, so I won't have the laptop with me until a little after the new year. I can give you more info then.

To get the second display working with i3wm on Arch, all I had to do was install the nvidia-340xx-dkms AUR package, then copy 20-nvidia.conf into /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d.
