Several hangs, then X session crashes

x86_64 (Intel Celeron N3160 in Acer Chromebook 14 CB3-431, aka EDGAR)

While streaming from the Hulu website in google-chrome, dnf, the "Appearance" applet, Firefox, and Thunderbird, I got multiple moments where the screen would freeze, then after a few seconds would continue normally. I think after four or five such "hang cycles", the X session crashed, such that, after the monitor went black for about four seconds, I got the X login prompt.
