[Linux 6.5.7] External GPU not working on AMD ThinkPad Z16 laptop via USB4
Brief summary of the problem:
My laptop (ThinkPad Z16 Gen 1) has an integrated AMD 680M graphics card as well as an AMD RX 6500M dedicated GPU. I am trying to use a third external AMD RX 7900 XTX GPU connected to one of the two USB4 ports via a Razer Core X Thunderbolt 3 GPU enclosure. Unfortunately it doesn't work, so I did some experiments and these are my results:
- If the eGPU is already connected at boot, the AMDGPU module always seems to load correctly (mostly, see dmesg below) but then I get an error when trying to start Sway (see below). Trying to hotplug the device instead results in a error in dmesg and the card doesn't initialize (see below).
- I also tried to plug the eGPU to an Intel laptop with a Thunderbolt 3 port and it works perfectly, both at boot and if hot-plugged, so I excluded an hardware issue on the eGPU side.
- Finally, I was able to launch Sway on my laptop with a GTX 1080 Ti on the Razer enclosure using the nouveau driver (even if with some difficulties) so I think there's an issue in how AMDGPU handles my particular USB4 controller, hence why I opened this bug report.

How to reproduce the issue:
The issue seems to be specific to my laptop's USB4 implementation, so the steps for the ThinkPad Z16 Gen 1 are:
- Install Arch Linux, Sway and add the udev rule to automatically authorize any Thunderbolt device (https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v6.5/admin-guide/thunderbolt.html#security-levels-and-how-to-use-them)
- Connect an AMD eGPU to an USB4 port
- Reboot
- Try to launch Sway
