Moving from xf86-video-ati to xf86-video-modesetting with multiple GPU's and Monitors
I have a setup with two (not recent) AMD graphics cards connected to two monitors. I currently have an /etc/X11/xorg.conf (quite old) that uses the radeon (ati) driver which gives me two displays :0.0 and :0.1. On display 0.0 I run a normal X11 session using a display manager and I use it for normal desktop activites. On display 0.1 I only run the X server and I use this display to present videos using mplayer. I have recently updated the os on this machine to LFS/BLFS version 12.0 (Xorg-Server-21.1.8). This version of LFS/BLFS only supports the modesetting driver, I have manually included the radeon (ati) driver to keep the system running. However going forward I would, if possible, like to use the modesetting driver for this system. So far I have discovered that it is not a simple matter of changing the driver type from radeon to modesetting (this just gives me a single :0 clone display). I have read a number of documents (non describes exacly what I wish to do) which lead me to the concusion that it may be possible but the way forward is not clear to me.
So two questions:
1, Is it possible. 2, What is the simplest way forward.
Thanks
