Wishlist: introduce a way to pretend that an output is connected even if it isn't
Hi, it looks like in xranrd there is no way to force the system to think that an output is connected when it isn't (or to establish virtual outputs).
This would be incredibly useful. The very fact that Amazon sells virtual HDMI adaptors at a price and in volumes large enough to have many vendors, just in order to cheat a system to think that an external monitor is attached is a quite clear indication of it.
A typical usage case is to be able to use a virtual external monitor with a display remoting application in order to use a tablet as an external monitor.
Another significant usage case is with teleconferencing applications like microsoft TEAMS which are able to share a screen. Specifically, you would like to be able to share this "virtual" screen, so you can play your presentation on it, while keeping a presenter console on your laptop screen.
I understand that everybody seems to consider Xorg as unworthy of any enhancement these days, but this really has a significant usage case and may be easy to introduce.
