no sound watching a video using Firefox browser, whereas it does using Chrome or Palemoon
(last edited see (*) and (**) and [To mention:...])
I have installed Pulseaudio (*) on PuppyLinux FossaPup64 (**) which is a flavour of ubuntu-focal. I get sound when watching a video using Palemoon, Chrome or mpvPlayer. But I cannot get any sound at all using Firefox! Here, on the Pulseaudio gui «Playback» thumb, the «Firefox» audiostream does not display when playing a video+audio from youtube for example, as it is with Chrome, Palemoon.... When using Palemoon or Chrome, the Chrome or Palemmon logos are displayed as also an audio volume cursor along.
Using Firefox, I happened to take some screenshots of the PulseAudios GUI showing the «Playback» thumb, taken within afew seconds time intervals. Some shots (see below 3 of them) show the expected audio cursor with the text «ffplay:Simple DirectMediaPlayer» instead when using FF (i.e. Firefox); as other do not. There is no sound at the speakers, not even disrupted. It looks like sound signal would be sent to ffplay (formerly ffmpeg)? ...ffplay first two characters are also used for Firefox ...
(*) tested on 3 compiled versions: 15.0 / 16.0 /16.1
(**) kernel 5.4.53 / ldd (Ubuntu GLIBC 2.31-0ubuntu9) 2.31
[To mention:
- using Pulseaudio 16.1, got error message «... libpulse.so.0.24.2 ... segfault ...» / no such error using version 16.0 and 15.0
- got a try with usr/bin/ffplay not activated/renamed «/usr/bin/Xffplay» : «ALSA plugin..» text appears in the GUI - see screenshot ]
Best regards, thanks for any help, Charlie.
