[question, documentation] is polkit-agent-helper-1 considered part of the API?
This is more of a question, or a request to explicitly document something.
polkit-agent-helper-1 is the suid binary, that is used by libpolkit-agent-1.so.
Note that NetworkManager no longer uses libpolkit-agent-1.so, but is calling polkit-agent-helper-1.
I also open this issue, to make polkit project aware of that. Do you think that is a mistake?
My request: please be aware that others might use this binary too. Can we thus consider "polkit-agent-helper-1" also part of some stable API, that is not going to break?
If that's already the case, then thanks! Is that documented somewhere?
Note that the polkit-agent-helper-1 location cannot be detected via pkg-config
, and on Debian that location tends to be different. That is not a problem, NetworkManager has a configure option --with-polkit-agent-helper-1
for that (and makes an effort to detect the location).
