Plugging headphones into front jack causes output to be unresponsive

Description of Problem:
When plugging my headphones into the front jack, pavucontrol correctly shows the output of my soundcard (HDA Intel PCH) switching to headphones. But in contrast to PA, the headphones stay silent.
At this point, switching the card profile to Off and back to the previous profile (Analog Stereo Output) will make the sound working again. When now unplugging the headphones, the same issue occurs with the speaker output. Again, switching the profile back and forth fixes it again.
If unplugging from the working headphone state and plugging directly in again, the headphone output does keep working. So it seems like something strange is going on with the automatic profile change.

Actual Results:
No sound is playing through the headphone.
