RME HDSP9632 (Hammerfall) no audio output / clients crash / no browser audio
Version, Distribution, Desktop Environment:
Ubuntu 20.04, pipewire debian repo
Description of Problem:
rme-audio.de HDSP9632 (aka Hammerfall) is a pro audio reference card that is expected to deliver first class audio results.
After installing pipewire, I can not play audio via pipewire using this card. Pipewire works using the built in PC Audio, also I can still use the card without problems via als directly, but playback via pipewire does not work.
Not only does it not work, but clients hang or even crash - it is a similar behavior like when an alsa device is blocked. Web Browser crash their video players or give a message about "video not able to play". even Ardour and audacity hang or crash. This is not what i expected form a new pro audio stack for Linux, especially not on a pro audio device - I can help debugging this issue, please just tell me how to collect all the information you need. I attached some logfiles produced after reading up the troubleshooting guide in the wiki.
How Reproducible:
Install pipewire on a machine with a RME HDSP9632 (Hammerfall) and get very sad by trying to use it.
Steps to Reproduce:
- install pipewire
- select RME output e.g. with pavuctl or via Audacity device selection
- see client behave bad / crash / hang and get no audio
Actual Results:
no audio / clients behave bad / hang / crash
Expected Results:
first class audio without any problems
Additional Info Eg. pw-dump -N > file
(As Attachment Please):
I attached some files aith several results from commands read up on the pipewire troubleshooting wiki entry.
There is also a quite long audacity session where I tried to select the pipewire device.
Please give me instructions how to collect more output that might help you, thanks.
