Backport to 1.20: allow qmi over mbim for fibocom

I wanted to backport enabling qmi over mbim for fibocom modems with qualcom chipsets.

Unfortunately CI failed because it builds with the main branch of dependency libraries and throws deprecation warnings which are reported as errors.

So I introduced a way to control which branch of dependency libraries are used.
