Quectel EG12: ModemManager is not reconnecting after loss of coverage
Dear Developers,
Modem is: Quectel EG12-EA (firmware EG12EAPAR01A14M4G).
ModemManager: 1.20.2
OpenWRT: master
Mode: QMI
The issue is that the ModemManager won't reconnect after a loss of coverage situation. Interestingly, the modem does reattach to the network, only ModemManager is not able to handle the situation.
In the log below, I waited 10 minutes after the cell service was available.
FYI, I am running my own lab setup with a small private test network to test how the modems behave in various conditions (loss of coverage, spotty coverage, weak signal etc.). This time, it is not a modem issue, as the same test passes on the dial up interface and I can see on the network end that the modem does reattach successfully after the cell service is restored. So I am fairly sure this is a ModemManager issue.

MOD: a second test was conducted when the device was started up without network coverage, after a few minutes the cell service was enabled on the base station. The issue is the same: the modem does reattach, but ModemManager is not setting up the connection. Please see the debug log below:

Interestingly, the periodic signal check does see the network:
