Piglit test result change if I execute single/few test or I execute a group with lot of tests (in this case I have temporary freeze and video blinking)
It is some years that I have problems executing some programs and I have try to find the problem source, but I failed.
I have problems with:
- blender: after creating a complex model I have the first group of errors reported below, all freeze, the monitor become black for a fraction of second or few seconds and then back. Sometime I have only one of this and then I can start to work again, sometime I have a sequence of these before I can work again... until the next sequence of this problems
- minitube: I can have problem like blender or I can have the video blinking with a lot of different color and shape. This second problem can be resolved only with a reboot
- mpv: without parameter I don't have problem, if I use non default parameters; if I don't mistake it is vo=dvpau that cause the same issue of minitube
I have noted, more than one time, that when I have the temporary freeze in minitue, executed with valgrind, and the system recover, than I cannot have any more problems with minitube until the next system reboot. So I think that there something that is not initialized or correctly initialized.
I think that these problems have different source.
I have tested all the R600_DEBUG & C. environment variable with blender but always the problem arise. I have also try MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.3 blender
I have try to install debug symbols, strace, use valgrind, ... but it is very hard to find something useful and understand what package/library cause these problems.
I have try qapitrace in the apitrace-gui Debian package
I have executed blender for GL e I get: 4449 @0 glXMakeCurrent(dpy = 0x7f7280bde800, drawable = 39845941, ctx = 0x7f725d3772c0) = True caught an unhandled exception /usr/bin/glretrace+0x287251 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0+0x138df: ./nptl/../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/x86_64/sigaction.c:0 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: __GI_raise+0x141: ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/raise.c:50 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: __GI_abort+0x111: ./stdlib/abort.c:79 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: __assert_fail_base+0x2641e: ./assert/assert.c:92 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: __GI___assert_fail+0x41: ./assert/assert.c:101 /usr/bin/glretrace+0x2728c0 /usr/bin/glretrace+0xb672f /usr/bin/glretrace+0x7a89f /usr/bin/glretrace+0x5db07 /usr/bin/glretrace+0x61949 /usr/bin/glretrace+0x56d7f /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: __libc_start_main+0xe9: ../csu/libc-start.c:314 /usr/bin/glretrace: _start+0x29 ? apitrace: info: taking default action for signal 6
but I don't have understand if it is a blender or qapitrace problem.
At least now I have installed piglit from git and I have executed:
- sanity: all go ok
- gpu: I have temporary freeze and near the end I have the blinking screen
Executing GPU test I have the following group of errors reported by journalctl

then my video in graphic mode start to blink with a lot of color and shape changing, I can access a terminal Ctrl-Alt-F3 and also I can access and see the GMD3 graphics mode, but from here I cannot access a graphics mode with any users. I try to stop gdm3 from my console:
# systemctl stop gdm3
and then start again
# systemctl start gdm3
and log in with my user, but the graphics mode blink again. So I have to reboot the system.
############################################
I restart the system and generate the html summary and look at: file:///home/davide/src/gpu/piglit_git/piglit/summary/gpu/problems.html
but something strange, I do:
$ export PIGLIT_SOURCE_DIR="/home/davide/src/gpu/piglit_git/piglit"
$ export PIGLIT_PLATFORM="mixed_glx_egl"
and then start to test the test with problems (crash/fail) within the fast_color_clear section:
$ /home/davide/src/gpu/piglit_git/piglit/bin/fcc-blit-between-clears -auto -fbo
PIGLIT: {"result": "pass" }
$ /home/davide/src/gpu/piglit_git/piglit/bin/fcc-read-after-clear blit rb -auto -fbo
PIGLIT: {"result": "pass" }
$ /home/davide/src/gpu/piglit_git/piglit/bin/fcc-read-after-clear blit tex -auto -fbo
PIGLIT: {"result": "pass" }
$ /home/davide/src/gpu/piglit_git/piglit/bin/fcc-read-after-clear copy rb -auto -fbo
PIGLIT: {"result": "pass" }
$ /home/davide/src/gpu/piglit_git/piglit/bin/fcc-read-after-clear copy tex -auto -fbo

$ /home/davide/src/gpu/piglit_git/piglit/bin/fcc-read-after-clear read_pixels tex -auto -fbo
PIGLIT: {"result": "pass" }
$ /home/davide/src/gpu/piglit_git/piglit/bin/fcc-read-after-clear sample tex -auto -fbo
PIGLIT: {"result": "pass" }\
and all pass the test!!!
except the last one that skip because I don't have OpenGL 4.3
$ /home/davide/src/gpu/piglit_git/piglit/bin/fcc-write-after-clear -auto -fbo
piglit: error: waffle_context_create failed due to WAFFLE_ERROR_UNKNOWN: glXCreateContextAttribsARB failed
piglit: error: Failed to create waffle_context for OpenGL 4.3 Core Context
piglit: info: Failed to create any GL context
PIGLIT: {"result": "skip" }
but why when I execute all the gpu test it executes this test and it don't see that I don't have OpenGL 4.3? and why all the other test fail/crash when in reality they all pass?
I try also the two fast_color_clear test passed and also they pass now.
So I execute only these tests:
$ ./piglit run tests/all -t fast_color_clear results/fast_color_clear
$ ./piglit summary html summary/fast_color_clear results/fast_color_clear
and all test pass!
I noted also that some previously skip test are executed and passed, there are only two test skipped: fcc-clear-tex and fcc-write-after-clear that need OpenGL 4.4 and I don't have.
I check the wrongly skipped tests in the gpu run and I found:\
- all-colors
Test requires OpenGL compat Shader Language version 1.1, but only 0.0 is available\ - fast-slow-clear-interaction
Test requires OpenGL compat Shader Language version 1.1, but only 0.0 is available\ - non-redundant-clear
Test requires OpenGL compat Shader Language version 1.1, but only 0.0 is available\ - redundant-clear
Test requires OpenGL compat Shader Language version 1.1, but only 0.0 is available\
so for some reason it cannot see the OpenGL compat Shader Language correct version
I then run single group tests and check with the gpu test:
#########
glx
#########
$ ./piglit run tests/all -t glx results/glx
[119/119] skip: 17, pass: 70, warn: 1, fail: 31
I have 71/103 score in glx and gpu test
with these difference:\
- in glx_arb_sync_control, test timing -fullscreen -msc-delta 2
in gpu test fail
UST duration per MSC is surprisingly variable (stddev 3475.987471 USTs), but then it only has to be monotonic Wallclock time between MSCs has stddev > 1ms (3631.005994us), driver is probably not syncing to vblank
in glx test warn
UST duration per MSC is surprisingly variable (stddev 118.440609 USTs), but then it only has to be monotonic
but I don't have any problems with freeze or blinking colors
#########
hiz
#########
$ ./piglit run tests/all -t hiz results/hiz
[25/25] skip: 5, pass: 20
I have 20/20 in hiz and 19/19 on gpu
In hiz there is a the test !opengl 1.1 that is missing in gpu
but I don't have any problems
################################
object namespace pollution
################################
$ ./piglit run tests/all -t "object namespace pollution" results/object_namespace_pollution
[72/72] skip: 12, pass: 60
in gpu I had 2/69 with 2 pass, 4 fail, 3 skip and the 60 crash!
only program with glbitmap and program with glgetteximage pass the test, but with the Stderr [radeon: The kernel rejected CS, see dmesg for more information (-16).]
then I try to execute with test/gpu and not test/all to see if there is some difference
$ ./piglit run tests/gpu -t "object namespace pollution" results/object_namespace_pollution2
[72/72] skip: 12, pass: 60
but all is the same
in the "object namespace pollution" test all vertex-array has been skipped with Stdout set to:
Test case vertex-array with glBitmap
create_vertex_array requires GL_APPLE_vertex_array_object
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Note: in blender I have tested the problem presence selecting pieces of my 3D model, this drow a orange line around each piece.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
So this can be the problem, for some reason it try to use something I don't have.
I have try to understand if I can set an environment variable to disable this extension, but I found nothing.
This are some gpu test result\

$ ./piglit run tests/all -t shaders results/shaders
[338/338] skip: 18, pass: 318, fail: 2
as usual there are some difference with gpu
gpu differece:\
- glsl-predication-on-large-array -> skip\
- fs-if-def-else-break -> skip\
- fs-lost-copy-problem -> skip\
- fs-swap-problem -> skip\
- fs-while-loop-rotate-value -> skip
all skip because: Stdout: Test requires OpenGL compat Shader Language version 1.2, but only 0.0 is available\ - vbo-generic-float -> skip
Stdout Test requires OpenGL compat version 2.1, but only 0.0 is available\ - vbo-generic-int -> skip\
- vbo-generic-uint -> skip
Stdout Test requires OpenGL compat version 3.0, but only 0.0 is available
I have stopped here because I think that I must understand why piglit sometimes don't "see" what really I have (as hardware/software).
If someone can help me and suggest I to identify the source of these problems.
Let me know if you need some more info or I can do some more tests.
Ciao Davide
