BSD deduplication and drmDevice simplification

Small series which, slowly grew:

  • add a few useful warning/comments and deduplicate some of the BSD code
  • improve the drmDevice API - essentially cutting execution time, memory usage and strace by half

@manu can you give it a try on your end? I did a hacked-up build test on my Linux box please test if on your end.
