Installation problem with preference for pgf90
I have installed the ifort, gfortran and pgf90 compilers on my system.
Installing from both libxc-5.2.3.tar.gz or from github (16 September 2022) I run into the same problem, the configure file selected pgf90 as the default compiler (I would have expected gfortran) and installation failed. The reason is that my PGI fortran license was no longer valid, and the problem was trivially solved by uninstalling the compiler, as gfortran was chosen as the compiler. After that libxc compiled, tested, and installed without issues.
Preference of compilers is not a technical issue, and the problem was on my side, but I would like to make a suggestion that gcc/gfortran should be the default for libxc, or that the installation instructions should explain how to choose the compiler.
As another suggestion the instructions for GIT installation should mention that autoconf and libtool are needed. autoconf was obvious from the reported error, but libtool needed a google search for the cryptic error.
As a final note the documentation is available for 5.1.x but the code is already at 5.2.y
