fc-cache appears to skip Manjari-Bold.ttf, font (then) not available in LibreOffice

/usr/share/fonts/truetype/Manjari: caching, new cache contents: 1 fonts, 0 dirs
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/Manjari: skipping, looped directory detected
It says "skipping".
If, after all the above, I try selecting the font in LibreOffice 6.4.4.2, that does not work. LibreOffice acts as if it does not know the font.
Questions:
- Why does it skip?
- Is the skipping the reason LibreOffice does not provide the font?
- The exact same "skipping, looped directory detected" message shows up when I do in fact use the system package "fonts-smc-manjari" instead of trying to add my own font file as outlined above. Why?
