Apparently the Indian keyboard layouts in xkeyboard-config are not very useful because of limitations in xkb. In xkb, it is not possible to output several characters when one key is pressed but that seems sometimes necessary. For Indian languages, the input methods supplied by ibus-m17n appear to be more useful, having the xkb keyboard layouts show up as well in the gnome-control centre confuse the user because of too many useless choices. Therefore, Anish Patil suggested to hide these Indian keyboard layouts in the gnome-control-centre. The easiest way to hide them is to move them from /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.xml to /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.extras.xml because gnome-control-centre does not list the layouts from base.extras.xml. base.extras.xml seems to be for rarely used layouts, so these Indian layouts seem to fet better there than in base.xml.

With a newer xkbcomp, a trailing "any" (NoSymbol) in a key definition is taken to mean "none" (VoidSymbol) when the layout specifies the keytype explicitly. Avoid this by not specifying the keytype -- it isn't needed when an included file has already defined the relevant number of levels. This fixes https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97336 , a bug for which a partial fix was applied in commit ae052b12. Signed-off-by: Benno Schulenberg <bensberg@justemail.net>

Australians use the 'us' layout but add an alias anyway so it's easy to find in the respective configuration tools. Signed-off-by: Peter Hutterer <peter.hutterer@who-t.net>

This ensures that the group modifier will work for Group2 as well even when <SPCE> has been set explicitly for the Group2 symbol table (as in the case for us(colemak)). Signed-off-by: Egbert Eich <eich@freedesktop.org> Reference: fdo#95168

By putting the related "capslock" and "shiftlock" options together, and putting the "none" option last, both in the rules and the symbols file. Signed-off-by: Benno Schulenberg <bensberg@justemail.net>

The option does not simply change the Caps Lock key into something else (like the other options do that use the "an additional" phrase), but it makes the key act as a Ctrl modifier while also still producing the Caps_Lock symbol. Signed-off-by: Benno Schulenberg <bensberg@justemail.net>
