DG2/A770 FW not ready / unexpected reset, GPU hang
Using a kernel from the 6.3 release candidates series, starting with rc5 (the first I've tested), as late as rc6, or using drm-tip 6.3.r1172410.766ccc538115, the system will fail to boot to a usable desktop at least 3 times out of 4. It may succeed the first time, but soft rebooting the system will fail to boot back to a usable desktop.
- System architecture: x86_64
- Kernel version: 6.3.0-rc6-1-drm-tip-git-g766ccc538115
- Linux distribution: Arch
- Machine or mother board model: MSI B450 Tomahawk
- Display connector: HDMI, DP
- A full dmesg with debug information and/or a GPU crash dump: dmesg.txt
- Other attachments if relevant:
- intel_reg_dumper output (see the guide) and VBIOS dump (see the guide) for display issues: (I am not authorized to view either of these guides, but Google found them elsewhere)
- intel_reg_dumper:
- GDM: regdump.1.txt
- VT: regdump.2.txt
- VBIOS dump: vbios.dump.gz
- intel_reg_dumper:
- for GPU hang, get the last batch buffer (see the guide): I am not authorized to view this guide (403 error)
- intel_reg_dumper output (see the guide) and VBIOS dump (see the guide) for display issues: (I am not authorized to view either of these guides, but Google found them elsewhere)
Futher commentary, this seems to be happening even if I cold reboot to a stable kernel (6.2.11) and then a forced cold reboot later, it will suddenly work again with whichever kernel I am using. This may be faulty hardware, though I am inclined to blame the motherboard and not the GPU, as this board has had problems with resetting GPUs in the past, especially when doing IOMMU detach/reattach.
