Very slow response for both tty and GUI, starts from linux kernel 5.16
Description: This happens on my new laptop. The most significant problem is that the response for both tty and GUI (For me it's KDE plasma, both wayland and x11 are affected).
On the tty: The typing is not as smooth as most of the tty I encountered, but still usable. But the tty would not refresh the screen until I enter a new key. This happens for many applications like neovim and pacman and happens very often.
On the GUI: Both keyboard input and mouse movement suffered from very large lag. It is completely unusable and sometimes there will be noise like an old tube TV when I open some applications.
The good and bad kernel version: I temporarily use latest linux-lts on archlinux (5.15.79-1-lts) and the problem is not happening. I also tested several kernel versions and find that the latest good version is 5.15.10 and the earliest bad kernel version is 5.16.1.
There are no strictly version 5.16 in the arch archive. So I use the 5.16.1 but that 5.16 is also broken is a reasonable guess.

Additional information: This problem happens for both live usb and a fresh install on my computer. So I assume there is other application involved. Also the laptop has no nvidia graphic card.

@TangdizhiH Did you try the latest drmtip kernel, the i915 drm logs are not enough to understand the problem. Please try the latest drmtip and provide the logs using below instructions:

Hi, suresh. Thank you for your reply. I've tried the linux-drm-tip-git from AUR and set the required kernel parameter in grub(also grub-mkconfig is done). But I can't boot into the drm-tip-git kernel. The kernel boot takes a while at something related to "uevent"(which I have no knowledge about) and then go black screen (Only a white cursor is displayed).
I wonder if you can provide some extra help on the drm-tip-kernel booting? Thank you!

Hi, thank you suresh. I just found that the problem has already been described in Arch Wiki page.
Although the syndrome was only flickering (not as bad as mine). But the solution to add
i915.enable_psr=0solves my problem on both linux mainline kernel and linux-zen.So I think this narrows down the issue a little bit. I temporarily disable Panel Self Refresh (PSR) and hopefully this can get fixed.

HI @suresh_kurmi & @jhogande, I was able to reproduce this issue on ADLP machine with eDP panel (It has psr support). The reported slowness is very much reproducible with both tty and GUI. As this issue is reproducible with tty even without GUI, hence we may need to debug it from KMS/driver side first.

HI @jhogande, as discussed offline, TTY now works fine with https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/series/111433/ patch set. However, GUI still has slow response. Is this something we can handle as well in KMS for GUI?

HI @jhogande, we have validated this issue with latest drm-tip and we see good improvements in the keyboard typing, app navigation etc, however mouse movement is still lagging and slow.
