PSR causes short freezes on Dell XPS 13 9310 2-in-1 (Tigerlake)

  • Hardware: Dell XPS 13 9310 2-in-1 (i7-1165G7)
  • OS: Ubuntu 21.04
  • Kernels tested: 5.10, 5.11, 5.12.5

During daily activities like watching a Youtube Video in Chromium / Firefox, typing some text in the text editor some short display freezes are noticeably that happen regularly. When booting with "i915.enable_psr=0" those freezes go away.

In kernel 5.11 the freezes became less apparent when booting with "i915.enable_fbc=1", for kernel 5.12 and drm-tip frame-buffer compression did not make any noticeable difference and the hangs are noticeably more frequent (at least that's my subjective impression).

I am happy to provide any information you need as well as test patches.
