[drm] GPU hangs while KDE wayland desktop loads
openSUSE Tumbleweed (a rolling Linux) with all updates installed as of current. uname -a Linux hp 6.4.11-1-default #1 (moved) SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu Aug 17 04:57:43 UTC 2023 (2a5b3f6) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
uname -r 6.4.11-1-default
I have this issue on my Intel HD5500 too and I could capture it in ordinary dmesg however when I applied the suggested boot parameters the hang message or WARN message can't be found. I lived another 5-6 seconds GPU hang in this session. Attaching the current drm.debug... dmesg log
I can reproduce this issue whenever I logon to a KDE/wayland session. The system hangs with the animation stopping when I select kde/wayland session from SDDM and enter my password. I also noticed it happening under severe CPU load such as digikam face detection of thousands of images.
It started happening in kernel 6.4.x (openSUSE Tumbleweed) Attempting VBIOS dump resulted in # cat /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/rom > vbios.dump cat: '/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/rom': Input/output error
