Adaptive Sync causes graphical corruption on Wayland [KDE Plasma]
Brief summary of the problem:
On KDE Plasma 5.27, enabling Adaptive Sync (enabled by default) is causing flickering and graphical artifacts consistent with descriptions in #2967. The flickering is most apparent and reproducible by scrubbing a Youtube video in firefox in fullscreen.
Hardware description:
- CPU: AMD 7840HS
- GPU: 63:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Device [1002:15bf] (rev c7) | AMD 780M
- System Memory: 27GB @6400MT/s
- Display(s): 2880x1800 120Hz Laptop display
- Type of Display Connection: internal display connected via eDP
System information:
- Distro name and Version: KDE Neon 5.27.10
- Kernel version: .5.0-15-generic #15 (closed)~22.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri Jan 12 18:54:30 UTC 2 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
- Custom kernel: N/A
- AMD official driver version: N/A
How to reproduce the issue:
- Enter Plasma wayland session
- Ensure adaptive sync enabled in display properties
- Open Youtube video in fullscreen, and scrub the timeline and interact with animated ui elements
FWIW the flickering also disappears when lowering the refresh rate, likely related to #2967 but since disabling adaptive sync resolved my issue I thought to make this ticket as it may be separate.
