This looks similar to this issue reported by a Gentoo user, which might be already reported as #2375 (closed). In my case, I'm using Debian bookworm, with Xorg and XFCE.

Another symptom, possibly or probably related - upon resume from suspend, sometimes no external monitor works, because CRTC configuration fails:

According to xrandr, "DisplayPort-[0123]" are "disconnected" but still present, so perhaps this issue is caused by resources not being correctly freed:

The last crash (dm_helpers_dp_mst_write_payload_allocation_table) happened on a cold boot too. It is not specific to suspend/resume.

I can confirm this. When I cold boot with the USB-C dock attached, my kernel (sometimes?) fails to load. I only see the following when booting, and then it stops:

When you say “CC back to stable”, does that mean it will also end up in the longterm 6.1? (I see that “drm/amd/display: Have Payload Properly Created After Resume” has been included in 6.3.5.)

This is a new issue that I haven't observed before.

That new thing for 6.4-rc6 seems like the daemon irqbalance might be racing with userspace. Can you please mask it and see if you can reproduce it still? If you can't; this should be a separate issue you should open.

How would I mask irqbalance? I opened issue #2647 (closed) for the boot failures. It bisects to a recent kernel commit so I think it's likely a kernel issue.

On 6.4.11-1-default that is the one included in

Same story here, there is a large degradation since 3 weeks ago, before my machine was booting correctly and had issues under DE only(X11, i3), but since then i cannot even boot, also cannot capture any logs, it freezes right after grub window.
