NM 1.36.0 broken auto ethernet connections generated by keyfile on disconnect/reconnect
NetworkManager-1.36.0-1.1.x86_64 on openSUSE Tumbleweed 20220304
Starting from a "fresh" system with no Ethernet connection profiles, on startup with Ethernet connected a new profile "Wired Connection 1" is created, which works (DHCP etc.)
However any disconnection (loss of carrier) and reconnection does not reconnect to the same profile. Instead apparently a new connection profile named after the interface ("enp1s0f1" in my case) is created by the keyfile plugin, and chosen as the default, and this is broken (has ip4.method = DISABLED
, see log). No idea where the plugin is picking this up from, /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-enp1s0f1
containing
BOOTPROTO='dhcp'
STARTMODE='auto'
exists but it is not changing between startup and reconnection. Removing it has no effect.
Manually choosing to switch to the previously autogenerated profile "Wired Connection 1" restores connectivity.
Full trace log consisting of fresh startup, disconnection, reconnection, and manual switch back to correct profile attached. nm136_ethernet_reconnection.txt
