Add Example Hardware Setup to Wiki
Ok, so, I'm having a hard time expressing this as a clear issue, so I'm just gonna tell you my story.
I've only recently found out about xrdesktop after discovering Motorcar, and then Simula. As a Linux user I found the idea awesome but left it at that because I didn't have any VR headset and wouldn't bother buying one for something that was still experimental.
But my new workplace has an HTC Vive in the breakroom that is mostly unused, so now I'd like to try xrdesktop with it. The thing is: How do I even get started with VR on Linux?.
I mean, after some hour and half of frustrating research I figured I would need to install SteamVR, which I did, but when I plugged in the headset, nothing happened. Not even an error message telling me my hardware is unsupported. (Which is my best guess because I'm using my work notebook which only has Intel integrated graphics.)
So, the end result is:
- I now would like to know of a working combination of hardware for VR on Linux. (Headset, GPU, CPU, Motherboard, Linux distro, and other relevant information)
- There should be more resources out there on how to setup a VR headset on Linux.
For 1. I thought I could just ask you guys what setup you use to work on this project and that would be the easiest.
As for 2. I'm not necessarily saying it should be hosted here, but I could see a simple example of how one of you installed their setup in the wiki. I mean it's relevant information for potential contributors, isn't it?
It doesn't necessarily mean it's a recommended setup, just that this combination of hardware and software works, to give some pointers to VR newbies like myself.
There you have it all, I hope it's not confused.
