XQuartz 2.7.11 slow startup on Mac OS 10.7 (regression from 2.7.9)

XQuartz 2.7.9 works perfectly on this Mac OS 10.7.5 machine, but upgrading to 2.7.10 introduces two issues: startup is very slow, and Xft font hinting appears to be broken (fonts at large sizes have odd shapes, e.g. the trunk of the letter "f" is very thin), at least to the extent that it is used in WINE 1.7.33 under Wineskin 2.5.5. Re-installing XQuartz 2.7.9 fixes it.
I wanted to set the Version of this bug to 2.7.10, but that version appears not yet available in the bug tracker.
