## Description
nvidia_drm remains in use for no apparent reason after Xorg shutdown.
Hi, i'm trying to Nvidia "Reverse Prime" with a gtx750 + intel hd4000
Displays are attached to the intel connectors.
What i've done so far:
My xorg.conf:
##########################
Section "Module"
Load "modesetting"
EndSection
Section "Device"
Identifier "nvidia"
Driver "nvidia"
#BusID ""
Option "AllowEmptyConfiguration"
EndSection
##########################
my xinitrc:
##########################
export DISPLAY=:0.0
xrandr --setprovideroutputsource modesetting NVIDIA-0
xrandr --auto
openbox --replace &
setxkbmap it
xset mouse 1.4 4
exec sudo -u koko lxterminal &
p1=$!
wait $p1
##########################
System starts with intel as the primary adapter, nvidia modules are NOT autoloaded.
So i do:
##########################
modprobe nvidia-drm
modprobe nvidia_modeset
modprobe nvidia
##########################
Prime synchronization is working fine:
##########################
cat /sys/module/nvidia_drm/parameters/modeset
Y
##########################
All is good whitin the X server, and works as expected, but what seems wrong to me is that as i exit the Xorg session, nvidia_drm remains in use.
##########################
lsmod | grep nvidia
nvidia_drm 45056 1
nvidia_modeset 798720 1 nvidia_drm
nvidia 11476992 1 nvidia_modeset
drm_kms_helper 126976 2 i915,nvidia_drm
drm 299008 7 i915,ttm,nvidia_drm,drm_kms_helper
##########################
It took me a while to understand, but there was an open handle to /dev/dri/card1 (nvidia):
##########################
# lsof -n | grep "/dev/dri/card/1"
systemd 1 root 19u CHR 226,1 0t0 21785 /dev/dri/card1
##########################
It prevents me from unloading nvidia_drm and i need to do that to pass the gpu to a libvirt domain.
Manually attach to systemd and closing the handle makes it work, but i cannot do that ugly hacks all of the times.
Note that the open handles i am speaking about increases by on on every xorg restart.
Who is to blame? nvidia driver? Modesetting driver?

Can't configure a desktop with 3x4k monitors in one row
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98297#c22
the mesa part is now fixed, but the modesetting driver in xserver needs to be fixed too:
hw/xfree86/drivers/modesetting/drmmode_display.c:
xf86CrtcSetSizeRange(pScrn, 320, 200, mode_res->max_width,
vs.
src/sna/sna_display.c:
xf86CrtcSetSizeRange(sna->scrn, 8, 8, INT16_MAX, INT16_MAX);
currently with xserver 1.19.3 it's not possible to configure 3x4k row of monitors unless the -intel ddx is used.

Video of the display issue
I have some black display chunks/flickering in firefox with the modesetting driver on a desktop computer.
It happens when typing into the search or URL bar.
It's sometimes blinking.
See attached video "xorg-modesetting_flickering_bug.mp4" and "Xorg.0.log"
There is no such issue with fbdev driver
Firefox uses GTK3 and has :
HW_COMPOSITING : blocked by default: Acceleration blocked by platform
OPENGL_COMPOSITING : unavailable by default: Hardware compositing is disabled
WEBRENDER : unavailable by runtime: Build doesn't include WebRender
System is Debian 9 (stretch) with
xserver-xorg-core 1.19.2-1+deb9u1
firefox 54.0 (but also confirmed in firefox-esr 45.9.0esr-1~deb9u1)

Xorg.0.log
Hello,
In the Xorg.log (attached), I see line
[ 3488.168] (==) modeset(0): DPI set to (96, 96)
which is wrong because earlier
[ 3487.981] (II) modeset(0): clock: 138.7 MHz Image Size: 344 x 194 mm
[ 3487.981] (II) modeset(0): h_active: 1920 h_sync: 1968 h_sync_end 2000 h_blank_end 2080 h_border: 0
server found correct physical geometry. Proper value for DPI should be around 140, not 96.
Using gdb I found that in my case inside xf86SetDpi() the following happens:
(gdb) print pScrn->monitor->widthmm
$3 = 0
(gdb) print pScrn->monitor->heightmm
$4 = 0
(gdb) print pScrn->monitor->DDC
$5 = (void *) 0x0
Probably, correct values are lost somewhere in the middle.

## Description
When the display returns from standby (using DPMS) I first get a frame from a previously played video until the screensaver (3D-based fireflies) kicks in. This also survives a suspend (suspend-to-memory).
The frame is not necessarily the last one played.
I usually use MPV with vaapi-accelerated playback, so this could be an error in a different component. Sorry if this is the wrong component, feel free to re-assign.
Versions (although previous versions have shown the same issue):

## Description
I have a thinkpad P70 with debian testing and 4.11.6 kernel.
A recent-ish upgrade broke something and now I'm getting loads of spam in my Xorg.log
```
[ 5031.435] (WW) modeset(0): flip queue failed: Invalid argument
[ 5031.435] (WW) modeset(0): Page flip failed: Invalid argument
[ 5031.519] (WW) modeset(0): Page flip failed: Invalid argument
[ 5031.519] (EE) modeset(0): present flip failed
(...)
```
by loads of spam I mean several hundred megabytes per day
The X server hangs every few days and when it works, 3D performance seems poor
```
system info:
ii libdrm-intel1:amd64 2.4.74-1
ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.19.2-1
ii xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20161206-1
```
Debian seems to require the use of the modsetting driver:
xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.13.0-2) unstable; urgency=low
* Starting from 2.10, the Intel X driver depends on a kernel driver for
mode setting (that's called KMS). The corresponding kernel option is
CONFIG_DRM_I915, and is enabled in Debian kernels.
* To enable KMS, either of those should be sufficient:
+ /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf should contain:
options i915 modeset=1
kernel: 4.11.6-amd64-preempt

config with intel & radeon driver, get clone mode, dri3 enabled
My noteboot have two video cards (intel g45 and radeon firegl 5700), one external monitor, os debian9 64 bit.
Without any xorg.conf and other custom configure files, xserver1.19 default using modesetting & radeon driver, it works well.
I cant config xorg.conf to default enable external monitor as clone mode, and enable radeon dri3 (disabled default).
I can get clone mode and enable radeon dri3 with my xorg config files if i using intel & radeon driver as attachment.
Change my config for modesetting & radeon driver will failed start xserver.
How to config with modesetting & radeon driver?

Hi there,
as discussed with mupuf on #intel-gfx yesterday I am getting an ugly mouse pointer flickering after installing Linux (KDE/Plasma 5.9) on my new ThinkPad T470p (Kaby Lake, HD Graphics 630, Nvidia graphics disabled via ACPI, modesetting). I have three monitors attached (one built-in HiDPI screen, two external ones). I have been able to track down the screen flicker to using --scale 0.75x0.75 on eDP-1 (the internal screen) via xrandr (I need to apply some screen-specific scaling due to the two external screens being normal DPI and the internal one being HiDPI).
I am using Arch Linux and hit the issue on both the regular Kernel 4.11.2 and the LTS Kernel 4.9.30.
$ uname -a

Please let me know if you need any further details.

## Description
My PC is connected to my TV using HDMI and the xorg-modesetting driver. Recently I've begun testing some older games using wine, only to discover that screen scaling is not available. I now it is available for Radeon hardware, but it would be nice to also be able to use it using the modesetting driver.
This issue is related to bug #90989.
A bit offtopic, but I think when setting "screen scaling" to "full aspect" or "full" it should be able to use every resolution lower than the desktop resolution. Also I would like to be able to change the screen refresh rate when using "screen scaling"

Xorg.0.log from 1.18.4 on kvm/cirrus with corrupted image
16bpp was working fine with the modesetting driver in xserver-xorg-core=1.18.3, but it's having various issues in 1.18.4, for example this corrupted dual image:

I've tested `xinit -- -depth 16` on 1.18.4 with the following combinations, all of which were working fine in 1.18.3:
VirtualBox: VirtualBox Graphics Adapter [80ee:beef] | vboxvideo | modeset | vboxdrmfb
==> Corrupted small double image
kvm -vga virtio: Red Hat, Inc Device [1af4:1050] | virtio-pci | modeset | virtiodrmfb
==> Corrupted small double image
kvm -vga cirrus: Cirrus Logic GD 5446 [1013:00b8] | cirrus | modeset | cirrusdrmfb
==> Corrupted small single image. It gets fixed if I change resolution with xrandr.
I'm attaching the Xorg.0.log of that last kvm/cirrus test.
Btw, in all those cases if I put "nomodeset" in the command line I end up using the VESA driver which doesn't have the issue.

Xorg crash dump
Using ubuntu-mate 16.04.1, if I try `xinit -- -depth 16`, it works fine, as it loads the intel driver.
Using ubuntu-mate 16.04.2, if I try `xinit -- -depth 16`, it's using the modesetting driver and I always get a Xorg crash, mentioning "(EE) AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0; Xorg: ../../../../hw/xfree86/common/xf86Helper.c:1948: xf86ScrnToScreen: Assertion `pScrn->scrnIndex < screenInfo.numScreens' failed."
This is without using a xorg.conf. It does not happen on skylake processors, so it's possible that it only affects older generations.
I'm attaching the crash dump and I'm pasting the Xorg.log below.

## Description
Gentoo switched from xf86-video-intel to the modesetting driver, so did my machine. With this driver X sets screen DPI incorrectly (xf86-video-intel does this correctly), while xrandr reports correct screen size.
$ xrandr | grep eDP
eDP-1 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 382mm x 215mm
which is the correct size.
$ grep "Image Size" /var/log/Xorg.0.log
[ 632.157] (II) modeset(0): Max Image Size [cm]: horiz.: 38 vert.: 21
[ 632.157] (II) modeset(0): clock: 140.5 MHz Image Size: 382 x 215 mm
[ 632.157] (II) modeset(0): clock: 92.5 MHz Image Size: 382 x 215 mm
which is also correct, but:
$ xdpyinfo | grep -E "dime|reso"
dimensions: 1920x1080 pixels (508x285 millimeters)
resolution: 96x96 dots per inch

## Description
When I connect to my laptop using VNC (x11vnc server on laptop's side) while it's lid is closed, the input response is extremly slow, about 5 seconds, which makes it unusable. The laptop has Intel GPU (sandybridge) and uses the 'modesetting' DDX driver. If you open the lid or use a different DDX driver it becomes responsive as expected.

## Description
When I move glxgears (or any other app that uses opengl) to the screen on monitor attached to UDL device, it starts refreshing itself in about one second periods, so monitors attached to UDL are not usable.
Here's backtrace from glxgears during hang:

It looks like it's waiting till xserver sends back idle event. And its going to do that after it receives vblank associated to that particular opengl window. But vblank is scheduled with timer (which executes in about a second) because xserver cannot find proper crtc. XServer uses ms_covering_crtc function to match window dimensions to those available in scrn's config. Looks like proper crtc not exists on the list:
```
## Description
When trying to use only the modesetting driver on a box with multiple GPUs (e.g. Optimus), PRIME bits become harder to set up:
$ xrandr --listproviders
Providers: number : 2
Provider 0: id: 0x7c cap: 0xf, Source Output, Sink Output, Source Offload, Sink Offload crtcs: 3 outputs: 5 associated providers: 1 name:modesetting
Provider 1: id: 0x44 cap: 0xf, Source Output, Sink Output, Source Offload, Sink Offload crtcs: 4 outputs: 1 associated providers: 1 name:modesetting
For people who don't know their GPUs, it'll be hard to figure out which "modesetting" entry is the internal GPU and which one is the discrete GPU.
It would be nice to get e.g.
$ xrandr --listproviders
Providers: number : 2
Provider 0: id: 0x7c cap: 0xf, Source Output, Sink Output, Source Offload, Sink Offload crtcs: 3 outputs: 5 associated providers: 1 name:modesetting(intel)
Provider 1: id: 0x44 cap: 0xf, Source Output, Sink Output, Source Offload, Sink Offload crtcs: 4 outputs: 1 associated providers: 1 name:modesetting(nouveau)
This would also make life easier for e.g. game launcher scripts that try to set up the discrete CPU before getting into a graphics intensive game etc.
