xemacs-21.4.22 crashes if syntax highlighting in current buffer is used

Description

XEmacs crashes if a file is loaded witch can be syntax highlighted and this feature is active.

Steps To Reproduce:

1. xemacs .bashrc
2. Activate syntax highlighting in this buffer.

This happened at least on both Linux PPC and MacOS 10.8 x86.
