I have a server board with the XGI Volari Z9M chipset:
06:02.0 VGA compatible controller: XGI Technology Inc. (eXtreme Graphics Innovation) Volari Z9M
I tried the XGI driver from Git, and after fixing the build failures mentioned in bug #22513, I managed to build and install the driver. While this driver does seem to do a better job than the VESA driver, it still has several problems:
Without additional configuration, it fails to do any better than 800x600 on my VX2235wm LCD.
With an explicit HorizSync and VertRefresh in the Monitor section, it consents to do higher resolutions. However, it does not offer my LCD's native resolution.
Screen 0: minimum 640 x 480, current 1600 x 1200, maximum 1600 x 1200
default connected 1600x1200+0+0 0mm x 0mm

640x480 75.0 73.0
Attaching my Xorg.0.log. Please let me know if you need any additional information.
