Touchpad stopped working with xf86-input-libinput 1.2.0

After update to xf86-input-libinput 1.2.0 a user's tochpad no longer works. I bisected the issue and figured out that the culprit was:

• beb94333 is the first bad commit
• commit beb94333

• Use the new v120 API from libinput if available

After disabling usage of v120 API things are working again. Some more details on SUSE's bugzilla:
