Description
xrandr should allow using keyword PRIMARY or some such specification, so one could do just:
$ xrandr --output PRIMARY --brightness .9
instead having to dig it out: $ j=$(xrandr | perl -nwe 'next unless /^(\S+) connected primary/; print $1; exit;') $ xrandr --output $j --brightness .9
on scripts to be used on many different machines. (The above example is of a company order to cut brightness to .9 company-wide.)
