Update altgr-intl or add (yet another) layout to symbols/us?
I am the author of the altgr-intl layout. After all these years, I am having second thoughts about this layout. It supports exotic characters (like ð (eth), © (copyright)) in simple and fast keystrokes, whereas ö (odiaeresis) is hard to type.
With the help of other users, I made a new layout (altgr-weur) based on letter frequencies for 11 Western European languages (English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portugese, Spanish and Swedish). We tested the layout for a while and we are now ready to submit it. The new layout sacrifices a few less frequently used (altgr-)deadkeys but kept the ones that are used in Western Europe, removed mentioned exotic characters and added ALL accented characters for those 11 languages through a simple and fast keystroke.
Since 2007, when I submitted altgr-intl, there have been quite a few layouts added: do we really need altgr-weur added, or can we update altgr-intl instead? Here is a link to the (current) proposed layout.
