Ran

configure --prefix=/home/rfirstaid/xdg-utils/install make

got the following error...

Note: Writing xdg-settings.1 /usr/bin/xmlto txt desc/xdg-desktop-menu.xml No way to convert HTML to text found. Try either installing text web browser(lynx/w3m/links) or use option --with-fop Makefile:114: recipe for target 'xdg-desktop-menu.txt' failed make[1]: *** [xdg-desktop-menu.txt] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/rfirstaid/xdg-utils/scripts' Makefile:25: recipe for target 'scripts' failed make: *** [scripts] Error 2

made the specified changes to the scripts/Makefile and it installed and worked with man
