Description
Hello all,
I'm working at Hypra and we teach computing on GNU/Linux to beginners, elderly, visual-impaired and blind people.
On the users desktop, when the Orca screen reader is used on each icon Orca announces the name of the icon followed by the file type and the word "icon". For example for Firefox, a blind person hears "Firefox desktop configuration file icon". The Firefox and icon are relatively clear for regular users but the wording "desktop configuration file" is for all the users with whom we work a complicated and technical wording.
From a technical point of view the wording is strictly and logically correct but from a user perspective it doesn't make sense. It makes him confused and think that GNU/Linux is complicated while Windows just announces "icon" or "shortcut icon".
We propose to change it to "desktop shortcut" because desktop files are intended to serve as desktop shortcut. For example, on Windows, for lnk file the wording is only "shortcut".
Technically from a user point of view, it makes sense as well, as all these files are additional icons on a desktop, and often shortcuts to binaries.
Would you accept a patch to change it?
Best regards.
