firefox submenus from application menu do not open

the 3 line hamburger icon for the application menu on the top right of firefox. the submenus there do not appear.

so selecting Help or Settings from there doesnt open the submenu. works on the wayfire compositor i am using on same machine.

distro: archlinux kernel: 6.3.6
