[Request] Better compatibility with `plymouth deactivate` / (Don't draw an all black rectangle upon startup?)
Hi
One thing that would be cool is if Weston didn't blank the screen upon startup. weston2weston
Currently you can see that there is a very small blip where it's all black for a bit when it starts.
Gnome Shell somehow does it a little better, it never blacks out the screen. It does do a gray window, which looks somewhat better weston2gnome
I am not sure how they do it, but if Weston could do the same thing that would be pretty sweet, there's a longer pause for it to display anything, but it's less flickery
This is on a system without VTs BTW, so this might be why it's a bit cleaner
But here's what it looks like going to Plymouth to Weston
(Plymouth needs more work to better support systems without VTs at time of writing)
plymouth2weston
This is plymouth deactivate
, it holds onto the last display of the splash, but it lets another display server take over /dev/dri/cardx
There is a small window of time where it's all black, and that really appears to be weston itself, as when I start Weston under Weston it's all black too.
Maybe the root surface can be all alpha or something, or hidden, but I don't know if that would really work.
If it's not possible, and takes too much work, it's not pressing, but it would be cool for flicker free boot...
Thanks
