Some displays freeze after automatic display turn off

When having a multi monitor setup and the screens automatically turn off based on the system's power settings, only the primary screen is responsive after waking while (at least) the secondary remains frozen.

The bug happened two times, the first time the second screen was completely black, the second time it simply showed the lock screen and couldn't be interacted with.

I tried:

  • Turning the screen off and on again
  • Unplugging the monitor
  • Unplugging the cable from the gpu
  • disabling one of the monitors in kde settings at a time

restarting the PC fixed the issue
