I'm using **KDE Plasma Wayland (5.26.5-1-fc37) on Fedora-37, Kernel 6.0.18**.
Few weeks ago after a routine update I lost my mouse cursor and I had to return
to Gnome. I thought a further update will fix the issue. One is past and after
few plasma/wayland update I've still the same issue with the mouse cursor. The same version of Plasma on X11 works.
Searching around on the Web I noticed lots of posts about this issue with Plasma
going back to some years ago. There's an interesting discussion thread [here](https://github.com/LizardByte/Sunshine/issues/93) but t didn't fix my problem.
Am I missing something?

If I leave Firefox in its default configuration, which includes hardware acceleration, and watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNxWNko6yf8&t=5s in 4k60 the lower 1/3 of my display will occasionally flicker. Sometimes black, sometimes cyan. It's an extremely fast flicker and not confined to the firefox screen.
- If I disable hardware acceleration in Firefox it does not occur.
- If I change the backend in firefox to use xwayland, it still occurs.
- If I swap the va drivers with rpmfusion's freeworld drivers the issue still occurs.
- It does not occur in Google Chrome, but CPU usage indicates chrome does not hardware accelerate vp9 on linux by default.
I'm honestly not sure if it's a driver problem, a wayland problem, a firefox problem or what. Any guidance where I should properly report this would be helpful.https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland/-/issues/339Wayland and click not enable on thumbnail grid2022-11-25T06:36:40ZropagmalWayland and click not enable on thumbnail gridHi to all.

My pc = Linux Manjaro 6.0.7, kde Plasma 5.26.3,
I’ve been using Wayland for a few days now and I’ve noticed a problem when I press alt-tab to switch windows:
with X11 I could use the mouse and click on the window where I wanted to place myself without having to scroll through them all but with Wayland it doesn’t work.
As “Activity Selector” I use “Thumbnail Grid”.
I wanted to understand if it is my wrong configuration or it works like this for others.

The flow is the following -
a client's call -> **wl_proxy_marshal_array_constructor_versioned** -> **wl_closure_send** -> **wl_connection_write**.
The **wl_connection_write** may call **wl_connection_flush**[1] inside, which may return -1 and set **_EAGAIN_**. However, **wl_closure_send** will set **_display_fatal_error_**[2], which means looking for an fd to be writable again is useless as **_wl_display_flush_**[3] never executes and always returns the last_error code, which doesn't seem to be possible to remove. Moreover, if a client checks for errors on the display through the **_wl_display_get_error_** call, it'll see that error and stop (as the spec suggests) as errors from wl_display_get_error are fatal [4].
Is that an expected behaviour?

`wl_client_add_destroy_listener` adds a listener to the client destruction. But this signal is emitted before libwayland cleans up all resources of the client.
From a hierarchical perspective it makes more sense for consumers of libwayland to handle such resource destruction with the client still around and only afterwards also clean up the client internally.
Otherwise consumers have to actively listen for client destroy and internally clean up cross-references between resources on that signal emittion like [here](https://gitlab.com/kwinft/wrapland/-/commit/c30250a1617c88a06595c74c70dba3ffd849f235).
This issue was briefly also already discussed in https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland/-/issues/103#note_701873.
# Solution ideas
* A solution to the issue with guaranteed backwards compatibility could be the introduction of a separate signal, which is sent after all resources have been cleaned up. Consumers then need to explicitly add a listener for that signal instead of the old destroy signal.https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland/-/issues/306Nullable arrays are supported by marshalling code, but never demarshaled as NULL2022-10-14T16:17:12ZIan Douglas ScottNullable arrays are supported by marshalling code, but never demarshaled as NULL`is_nullable_type()` defines `ARRAY` as a nullable type, and `TEST(connection_marshal_nullables)` tests marshaling of the `?a`. It doesn't seem to have a test for demarshalling, however.

`wl_closure_marshal` allows serializing where `args[i].a == NULL` if `arg.nullable`. And `serialize_closure` sends this as a length of `0`. But `wl_connection_demarshal` never demarshals anything as a `NULL` `wl_array`. This would be interpreted as a non-null zero length array.
This differs from `?s`, where `NULL` is a zero-length array, and `""` is a 1-element array containing just `NUL`. I don't see any way the wire protocol could make such a distinction for arrays.
Nullable array arguments don't seem to be used anywhere than I can find, except a rather old commented out use in [`plasma-shell`](https://invent.kde.org/libraries/plasma-wayland-protocols/-/blob/master/src/protocols/plasma-shell.xml).
If my understanding is correct, `is_nullable_type()` should be changed to not treat arrays as a nullable type. This could also be better documented. As is, the [documentation](https://wayland.freedesktop.org/docs/html/apb.html#Client-structwl__message) doesn't mention which types are nullable. Nor does the [wire format documention](https://wayland.freedesktop.org/docs/html/ch04.html#sect-Protocol-Wire-Format) mention how `NULL` is represented.https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland/-/issues/328xauthority doesn't exist on xwayland mode.2022-10-10T07:16:55ZNonie Variousxauthority doesn't exist on xwayland mode.currently xwayland creating not a xauthority per default...

I was able to select the whole screen under screen share, it would share my whole screen's size, but the screen shows as black with just my mouse cursor.
When I stream in Discord selecting a window, individual windows stream as normal.
I was using GNOME with Wayland on a fresh install of the latest Arch, and a fresh official install of Discord. To reproduce the issue, you just need to open Discord (in non-root), call a friend, share your whole screen, and you will see that your screen will appear black, full resolution, but the mouse will still show.
I done some research and came across this reddit post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/gn9bzq/screenshare_entire_display_on_discord/
presenting the same issue, where it is in fact Wayland that has the issues, and this was made two years ago.
Can this be fixed? Discussion: https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/wayland-devel/2019-April/040431.html
**Brightness**
Most new monitors are too bright to be used at night, even with their brightness set to 0.
Redshift manages to decrease brightness even further, and it's great: http://jonls.dk/redshift/
Gnome night mode doesn't care about this: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=784810
Please support decreasing brightness (beyond's display brightness control, which is already to minimum)

On 64-bit systems, a malicous client can create so many references that the `int` overflows. This is undefined behavior, but it will most likely cause the `int` to overflow, causing an exploitable use-after-free. A successful exploit will result in the execution of arbitrary code in the context of the Wayland compositor.
To fix this bug, `uintptr_t` (or `intptr_t`) should be used for all reference counts. There are only `UINT_MAX` possible distinct pointers, so a `uintptr_t` reference count can never overflow, and an `intptr_t` reference count cannot overflow if the referencing and referenced objects are at least 2 bytes. This assumes that `INTPTR_MAX == (UINTPTR_MAX >> 1) && UINTPTR_MAX == ((uintptr_t)INTPTR_MAX << 1) + 1`, which can be checked with a C11 `_Static_assert`.https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland/-/issues/311wayland-server: Expose a getter for global's name2022-07-27T19:29:01Zsalmanmlkwayland-server: Expose a getter for global's nameHi!

I am requesting a getter for a global's name/id as I don't see one already available for the compositors to get this information. Please let me know if there is any good reason not to expose it to compositor (I know that this gets relayed to the wayland client whenever they bind to the global/interface and receive a callback for an event).
In my case, my application is screencast multiple monitors using xdg-desktop-portal APIs. However, when the pipewire streams are started, the only information I get back is the pipewire stream node id and there is no good way to know which pipewire stream node id belongs to which monitor (wayland output). If the compositor could also send back the wayland output's name/id, it can help the application to differentiate between the streams. Towards that end, I was trying to add support to mutter compositor to also return the wayland output id but seems like wayland server doesn't export it right now.
Kindly let me know if exposing the global's name is ok and I can send a small CL for it (which will look pretty similar to the `wl_global_get_version` getter). A coredump of Hyprland seems to point to a libwayland crash.
[hyprland_coredump.txt](/uploads/bca85b24bfcb63424991ac3860eb8806/hyprland_coredump.txt)
Downgrading the wayland package on Arch Linux to v1.20.0-2 resolves the issue, which suggests that this may be a regression in the most recent wayland release. Crashes are confirmed both with the main `extra/wayland` package, as well as the `wayland-git` AUR package. I have been able to reliably trigger the crash in Hyprland via the following bash command, which causes dunst notifications to rapidly open and close, and crashes libwayland within a second under Hyprland:
`while pgrep Hyprland; do notify-send hi && dunstctl close-all; done`
I will admit that I have been unable to recreate this crash under other compositors like sway, river, or wayfire.
Vaxerski (the lead developer for Hyprland) has not been able to recreate the crashes on his system, so I am taking the lead on this to the best of my ability. Vaxerski will be following this thread as well to assist with technical details, as I am not a developer, but since I am one of the more involved users affected by the crashes I will be best equipped to troubleshoot and provide crash logs.https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland/-/issues/309Two USB touchscreen inputs are mapping to one touch monitor.2022-07-25T09:09:37ZThai NguyenTwo USB touchscreen inputs are mapping to one touch monitor.I use Ubuntu 22.04, and Wayland is a default graphical shell. But the older zoom versions that worked with Xorg was able to show to the user with a "green border" which window is being currently shared.
This feature is currently not working. When talking to zoom support via ticket their dev team mentioned the following..
This is not a simple feature request at present,
1 The system share pop-up dialog needs to return us which app or monitor is shared out.
2. Wayland should provide the functions of window enumeration and the position and size of each window. but Wayland may not provide those, Wayland is designed in a way that clients don't know about each other
Based on the above suggestion, I'm filing this ticket to help provide this feature.
