The flow is the following -
a client's call -> **wl_proxy_marshal_array_constructor_versioned** -> **wl_closure_send** -> **wl_connection_write**.
The **wl_connection_write** may call **wl_connection_flush**[1] inside, which may return -1 and set **_EAGAIN_**. However, **wl_closure_send** will set **_display_fatal_error_**[2], which means looking for an fd to be writable again is useless as **_wl_display_flush_**[3] never executes and always returns the last_error code, which doesn't seem to be possible to remove. Moreover, if a client checks for errors on the display through the **_wl_display_get_error_** call, it'll see that error and stop (as the spec suggests) as errors from wl_display_get_error are fatal [4].
Is that an expected behaviour?

as x and y arguments is discouraged, and should instead be replaced
with using the separate wl_surface.offset request.
When the bound wl_surface version is 5 or higher, passing any
non-zero x or y is a protocol violation, and will result in an
'invalid_offset' error being raised. To achieve equivalent semantics,
use wl_surface.offset.
```
So we have text that indicates that it's ok to pass dx, dy to wl_egl_window_resize if you're not using wl_surface.offset, and we have text that suggests that passing x, y to an attach is merely discouraged, but we also clearly state that you'll receive an error for using non-zero x or y in any situation in which wl_surface.offset is *available* to you, regardless of whether it's used or not.
I think we should probably at least change the wl_egl_window_resize test to ``` * If the wl_surface.offset request is available ``` ?https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland/-/issues/314Wayland does not display full resolution2022-08-04T00:05:16ZVanderWayland does not display full resolutionWhen using xorg, I can use the maximum of 1366x768, but Wayland is not capable, resulting in a slightly blurry image (even in games). I am requesting a getter for a global's name/id as I don't see one already available for the compositors to get this information. Please let me know if there is any good reason not to expose it to compositor (I know that this gets relayed to the wayland client whenever they bind to the global/interface and receive a callback for an event).
In my case, my application is screencast multiple monitors using xdg-desktop-portal APIs. However, when the pipewire streams are started, the only information I get back is the pipewire stream node id and there is no good way to know which pipewire stream node id belongs to which monitor (wayland output). If the compositor could also send back the wayland output's name/id, it can help the application to differentiate between the streams. Towards that end, I was trying to add support to mutter compositor to also return the wayland output id but seems like wayland server doesn't export it right now.
Kindly let me know if exposing the global's name is ok and I can send a small CL for it (which will look pretty similar to the `wl_global_get_version` getter). OS : Fedora 36
Desktop : Gnome 42 (wayland)
Zoom is able to show a list of windows to share and is able to share the specific window that the user picks to share.
But the older zoom versions that worked with Xorg was able to show to the user with a "green border" which window is being currently shared.
This feature is currently not working. When talking to zoom support via ticket their dev team mentioned the following..
This is not a simple feature request at present,
1 The system share pop-up dialog needs to return us which app or monitor is shared out.
2. Wayland should provide the functions of window enumeration and the position and size of each window. but Wayland may not provide those, Wayland is designed in a way that clients don't know about each other
Based on the above suggestion, I'm filing this ticket to help provide this feature.
A coredump of Hyprland seems to point to a libwayland crash.
[hyprland_coredump.txt](/uploads/bca85b24bfcb63424991ac3860eb8806/hyprland_coredump.txt)
Downgrading the wayland package on Arch Linux to v1.20.0-2 resolves the issue, which suggests that this may be a regression in the most recent wayland release. Crashes are confirmed both with the main `extra/wayland` package, as well as the `wayland-git` AUR package. I have been able to reliably trigger the crash in Hyprland via the following bash command, which causes dunst notifications to rapidly open and close, and crashes libwayland within a second under Hyprland:
`while pgrep Hyprland; do notify-send hi && dunstctl close-all; done`
I will admit that I have been unable to recreate this crash under other compositors like sway, river, or wayfire.
Vaxerski (the lead developer for Hyprland) has not been able to recreate the crashes on his system, so I am taking the lead on this to the best of my ability. Vaxerski will be following this thread as well to assist with technical details, as I am not a developer, but since I am one of the more involved users affected by the crashes I will be best equipped to troubleshoot and provide crash logs.https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland/-/issues/305[Feature Request] Add a protocol for an always on top window (something simil...2022-07-06T19:16:54ZEtaash Mathamsetty[Feature Request] Add a protocol for an always on top window (something similar to wlr-layer-shell)One of the major problems with wayland right now is that it is practically impossible to have a window brought to the top or for a window to be always on top of other windows programatically. After updating KDE from 5.24 to 5.25 and restarting, the mouse cursor is completely invisible at all times. I can still move it around and hover over things, but even after changing the cursor theme, it's still invisible. It is visible when using X11.
> Destroying the wl_buffer before wl_buffer.release is allowed as long as the underlying buffer storage isn't re-used (this can happen e.g. on client process termination). However, if the client destroys the wl_buffer before receiving the wl_buffer.release event and mutates the underlying buffer storage, the surface contents become undefined immediately.
This wording seems to me to allow (or I am misunderstanding the concepts of buffer storage not being re-used or mutated?) for one-shot buffer commit scenarios at points other than client process termination (which is used only as an example):
1. client: attach wl_buffer A to wl_surface S
2. client: commit wl_surface S
3. client: destroy wl_buffer A and backing buffer storage (e.g., SHM memory).
4. compositor: wl_surface S is presented with wl_buffer A contents until the next attach/commit
Some clients (e.g, Wine Wayland) currently use this one-shot feature, misbehaving under, e.g., Weston which doesn't fully support this (see https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/weston/-/issues/604). If this not a supported scenario, perhaps we can update the spec wording to further clarify this?https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland/-/issues/299libQt drivers and libwayland client shared object2022-05-23T08:47:05ZD JlibQt drivers and libwayland client shared objectI'm mindful of the warning that "Issues with Wayland during day-to-day usage are almost certainly a bug in your compositor and **not** a bug with in this repository" so my apologies if this falls in that category.
I've been having a lot of trouble with Zoom on Wayland (I run Arch+Sway on a lenovo thinkpad x1 carbon gen 14). Roughly 1/3 times opening Zoom, it crashes early during launch, or when I start a meeting. I pursued this for a long time with the Zoom support, who eventually sent me this message, hence my raising an issue here:
From Zoom support:
I would like to let you know that I have an update from our engineering team and they have asked If you are able to reach out to the support team with libwayland to figure out the crash reported with libwayland-client.so
Furthermore, I would like to share with you the information from the crash dump
