Terratec Aureon DualUSB pops when sampling rate changes
Hello!
Summary
I'm using a Terratec Aureon DualUSB (http://www.terratec.net/media/filer_public/10542-en.pdf) connected to an A/V receiver (Panasonic SA-XR55) via optical TOSLINK.
For years I've randomly had popping when sounds started playing. This cut off the start of short sounds and was quite annoying. Messing with powersave settings didn't help. Now I figured out how to reproduce the problem and why it happens.
Environment
Steps to reproduce
- Have my setup
- Play random file with 8kHz, e.g.
aplay /dev/urandom
(warning: loud) - Play random file with 44.1kHz, e.g. some MP3
What is the current bug behavior?
Audio pops when 44.1kHz sound starts playing.
What is the expected correct behavior?
No popping.
I had an idea and set alternate-sample-rate = 44100
- the problem is gone! So when PA switches its sampling rate, this leads to a pop on my setup. If PA has a quirks database, this could be added to avoid switching the sampling rate on this card. But I can't tell if this is really the fault of the card, or of my receiver.
Cheers!
