Pavucontrol opened prevents passthrough of audio to receiver
My Setup: Arch Linux, 8th gen Intel CPU with integrated audio on a notebook. PC connected to HiFi receiver via HDMI. HDMI output set to Stereo and all Options for passthrough are enabled. Pulseaudio module-allow-passthrough is loaded. The HDMI Output is set as fallback.
Test 1:
- have pavucontrol closed
- open a compatible video with passthrough compatible audio in VLC, for example dolby digital plus
- audio passed through to receiver is recognized as dolby digital plus stream by the receiver
- open pavucontrol
- pavucontrol shows no volume meter for vlc passing audio through (as it should)
Test 2:
- have pavucontrol open
- open a compatible video with passthrough compatible audio in vlc, for example dolby digital plus
- audio is not passed through to the receiver, instead only PWM audio is send to the receiver
I don't know why this is happening, perhaps it's a technical necessity but i'd be happy to provide all the data to fix this.
