Why, when, and to what to calibrate a monitor
Find a link or few to some good articles explaining:
- why one would want to calibrate their monitor
- when do you want to calibrate your monitor and when just going with the factory defaults or some pre-set is better
- if you do calibrate your monitor, what do you use as a reference
- how you actually calibrate a monitor such that your adapting vision does not fool you
For the reference, I have seen noon daylight being mentioned, but that is completely dependent on weather. Why not calibrate against your prevalent room lighting instead, e.g. by looking at a blank sheet of obviously-white copy paper? When one intends to work daily with a screen, the room lighting can be more prevalent than outdoors lighting, and room lighting is definitely more stable.
