Certain PDFs (converted from eps) mangled by poppler+cairo

Description

Created attachment 110441 Example pdf file that pdftocairo mangles.

I'm using epstopdf to convert eps files generated by Matlab into pdf files for inclusion in latex documents. Some of the resulting pdf files display corrupted in evince or when converted using pdftocairo. The same pdf looks fine in gv and xpdf or when converted using pdftoppm and pdftopng. I have poppler 0.24.3 installed (fedora 20). I'm attaching a tiny example.
