ambiguous nicks

In KDE Plasma we recently switched from displaying descriptions to nicks because the former were often too technical and too verbose. The trouble now is that nicks are sometimes too ambiguous. To help mitigate the user can select which device name they would like shown, but obviously that doesn't help the out of the box experience being rubbish, depending on the involved devices.

I am wondering if we can make nicks more generally worthwhile? Would a mapping database of device-nicks make sense perhaps?
