ALSA mixer controls broken

I've just updated to 0.4.6 and master volume is no longer exposed to ALSA. AlsaMixer says "This sound device does not have any controls." I rely on the ALSA API to display volume in my statusbar as it is a lot simpler than the Pulse API (haven't looked into using the PW API yet). A quick git bisect puts the blame on 8bbbba23.
