Earphones with a mic are quiet unless the button is pressed, mic doesnt work either way
Version, Distribution, Desktop Environment:
Arch Linux, KDE Plasma 5.21.1, pipewire: 1:0.3.22-1
I have a pair of earphones with a built-in microphone, connected with a combo jack connector. They have a button on the microphone piece, that I never (had to) use, so I don't even know what it is supposed to do. I can use these exact earphones in Windows and the mic works correctly without pushing the button. They are very usual earphones, nothing special (for anyone curious search: Xiaomi Mi In-Ear Headphones Basic). I also know that the built-in microphone (in the laptop) works correctly, only I have to lower the volume to ~20% unless I want to blow everyone's eardrums. (Possible separate issue with too sensitive settings, which also wasn't there before IIRC)
So I have these two issues:
- earphones are quiet unless the button is pressed, when it's pressed the sound is not just louder, it's the correct volume.
- the built-in mic doesn't work (there is only noise)
IIRC I had neither of these issues in the past (with Pipewire).
I am attaching an output from pw-dump > file
(although there is something wrong with the encoding)
