[SOLVED] To Developers: About a2j in pipewire: Current Midi Catch 22 with Jack
The jack/a2j developers basically referred me to you as they claim pipewire will deal with these issues in future.
There is currently an untenable situation with midi implementation in jack regarding a2j-bridge. The summary of the problem: When a2j runs you lose all legacy and non jack aware midi software communication to external devices. a2j confiscates and demand all midi to go through jack or get lost. there are literally 1000's of legacy and non-jack aware software in use on Linux.
My suggestion is that you look at this situation and see if it will not be possible to have jack midi be able to use only those midi ports a user assigns for jack and leave all other midi devices/ports alone so that legacy software can also be used while a2j runs.
Here is an example of a post regarding this issue to the a2j/jack developers you can read to understand the situation: I hope rewire will help to resolve this untenable situation regarding linux midi.
