No sound from module-roc-sink unless volume meter is open

Description of Problem:
Applications set to output to a roc-sink can only play sound when at least one volume meter is active (kde volume applet or pavucontrol-qt is open). As soon as all are closed any audio AND video playback to the roc-sink instantly stops until another meter is opened. The same is true if I only un-/check "Show volume meters" in pavu while keeping the window open.

Steps to Reproduce:
- Set up roc-sink (and source on other device)
- Start playback, select configured roc-sink as output device
- Open any volume meter
