Pipewire-ALSA configuration does not produce 5.1 sound
- PipeWire version: 0.3.40
- Distribution and distribution version: Manjaro Linux
- Desktop Environment: KDE
- Kernel version: 5.15.6-2-MANJARO
Description of Problem:
No surround sound anymore after switch from Pulse to Pipewire - only stereo.
Alsa only works using hw:0
. Other devices seem to fail.
Note: I'm not sure if this is an ALSA or Pipewire issue. But it was working before I installed Pipewire (~July 2021).
Steps to reproduce
aplay test.wav # stereo
aplay -D pipewire test.wav # stereo
aplay -D pipewire test.wav # stereo
aplay -D pipewire test.wav # stereo
aplay -D hw:0 test.wav # 5.1
Additional Info (as attachments):
Here are the logs from when I used aplay -D hw:0
vs aplay -D pipewire
:
- pw-dump-hw_0.log
- pw-dump-pipewire-pavucontrol.log
- pipewire-debug-3.log
- (invalid, old file: pw-dump-pipewire.log )
If you make a diff, you see that the pipewire log only uses "FR" and "FL". I probably need to manually edit a config file like /usr/share/pipewire/pipewire.conf
, but I don't know how to let this file do 5.1. I'd expect that this config file would be generated correctly by my operating system/package manager, instead of letting every 5.1 user edit this file manually? Which makes me wonder if I should really touch these files...
Thanks on advance for any help!
