This seems to be the correct place to put it, and newer versions of
Android Studio don't seem to pick up just assets/.

Also adding a way to customise this for apps that wish to do so (via
the GSTREAMER_ASSETS_DIR variable).

what the currently checked out revision is. The revision being a hash
for git repos and a URL to tarball for tarballs

libmad is GPL, has been unmaintained for ages, and is slow.
We have better replacements these days, such as libmpg123.
