Sierra EM8805 fails to resume after waking computer from suspend: "proxy configuration failed: closed"

my laptop with Sierra EM8805 fails to restore the connection after waking from suspend.
The logs from after waking from suspend differ in the following part from the logs obtained from operation after restarting modemmanager without preceding suspend:
